Welcome to another episode of Organic Keralam. Today we are going to acquaint with a new fish called” fighter “. Now we are with Jinesh from puthupariyaram, Palakkad district who is a tailor taking the pisciculture along with his tailoring. He has set up his fish breeding, adjacent to his tailoring shop and sells his pet to throughout Kerala. It is very interesting to see his Fish horticulture. Anyhow we shall invite him for our show and get to know more about this distinct business. We request all viewers to watch the video and do comments in the box. Let us see his shop and get to know how he carries this business. Are you only breeding the fighter fish ? or you had nurtured other fish too earlier? Earlier I had nursed fish like guppy, moly and golden fish. Even though I have more craze on these fighter fish because of their beauty and quality. They are not like other fish. In the case of other pet fish, we can put them altogether in a pot and nurture. But fighter needs a complete attention.Hence we have to put them in separate pots and maintain them with care. It seems as unique sight for us when it stretches its beautiful fins and tail around it –then it resembles to a decorated elephant in the majestic form. So the fighter fish is indeed a fighter in its nature…right? Yes..we don’t need to pay much attention till it become a fish of 45 to 60 days. After that we have to put the male fish separately in each bottle. We will get 600 to 700 babies out of each breeding. Then we would have to separate all male that came out of breeding. If it is 500 then we have to arrange 500 pots to keep them in single. I will feed them twice daily and transfer water weekly. Can we put female fish altogether? Yes we can.. Which fighter is to be introduced firstly? They are big ear or Elephant ear. Look at them they are matured for breeding They have become breeding pair. After two days they are going to lay eggs and within two to three days the eggs would be hatched in to tiny fish. How much the price of these pairs? I sell the big ear pair which has been conditioned for breeding for 600 rupees. Otherwise we sell the male for RS 100 and the female for Rs 50. The breeding pair are conditioned by giving them quality food. I take some babies for breeding and give special attention by giving special foods to make them efficient for breeding. So the pair goes to 600 rupees right.. and you have 5 species of fighter breed… One of them is Big ear right? Which species is the next to be introduced? They are butterflies. They are also breeding pair right..Yes they are.. So they have male and female .aren’t they? Yes they have both.. What is the price of it? Breeding pairs are sold for 400 rupees . But the normal male for 100 and female for 40 rupees. They also should be conditioned for breeding. It takes some expenditure. The next breed? They are White .. They are called Over Half Moon(OH). Look at them, they are medium in size. Most of the people are not growing white largely. Some says that this strain like Black and White has no immune power
and dies frequently. But I have nearly 700 babies of this white and have 40 breeding pair. What is the price of it? I have bought this pair for 2000 rupees. I sell the pair from 400 rupees to 500. I have large number of baby fish with me. This strain is the most costly in the fighter fish breed that I have with me. But in the market there are much costly fish rather that what I have with me. Which is the next? They are Solid Blue or full blue. Royal blue in color. They are sold enormously in market. Their demand is considerably high in shops. What is the rate of this strain? I sell the breeding pair for Rs:500. But the normal male for Rs. 100 and female for 50. Which is the next to be introduced? They are Red dragon or Half Moon. Their body is white while their tail and fins are red in colour. what is its rate? I sell this breed for Rs:350. which is the next breed? These are Fancy coy. As an experiment I have made this strain for sale. So you cross the breed here itself, right? Yes, I had taken the male from Solid Blue and female from white strain. I have got a lot of multi-colored fish out of them. They were sold very fast as their demand was high. Now only few are left. I had 600 fish with me. What is the rate of this breed? I sell this breed for Rs: 400 like the full moon. But they were sold fast. Only 2..3 pairs are left. I am preserving them for future breeding. Do they affect by diseases when they were culturing in large scale? What is the epidemic disease attack on this stock? Usually they are not affected by diseases as they are handled with care. Even though we care, some fungal diseases affect them. This fish has been attacked by Fungus. It is in treatment. It has been in sickness since 2 days. But now it has become active. It was on the edge of death. I will show you how it is taken care when they are affected by disease. Take a separate pot for them..pour a little water. Water should not be exceeded as the fish cannot swim much as they are weak due to illness. This is the affected fish which is in treatment for two days. Take a spoonful of crystal salt and put it in the water. Then take a dried Indian almond leaf. Tear and put it also in the water. It has a power to resist the fungus. Can we take fresh leaf for it? No we should take only dried leaf .. but that should be washed. Can we use this method to all type of fish? Yes we can use as this almond leaf has the efficiency
to cure the wound of fish. We also use this method to breeding females as they would get wounds from male fighter after breeding. The wound will be healed in just one day itself. So the leaf should be changed every day? Yes..not only leaf but water and salt also should be changed every day that should be continued for five days as the process of healing. Don’t the salt affect the fish? No..the affected fish has no choice. Salt will not be a harm to them but a remedy to get rid of fungus. What about their food Jinesh? I usually give live food to them. I give them Artemia.. We can get Indian artemia and OS artemia. Indian artemia is comparatively cheap .. that costs only 200 per 100 gm.. While OS artemia costs 1200 rupees for 100 gm. OS atremia has the good efficiency to accelerate the speedy growth of baby fish. How much time will be taken to hatch the baby fish? It will take 24 hours to hatch the baby artemia
which would be the food of our fish. We should pour some water in to a bottle
and put salt in to it. Then air filters should be connected
to the bottle to assure air circulation. How much should be given to the fish? One tea spoon full of artemia is sufficient for five hundred babies. I shall give the OS artemia
for fifteen days to the baby fish. Then I shall change the food in to frozen artemia. It should be kept always in the freezer. To give frozen artemia we should take
a piece of it and put it in a glass of water.. After half an hour it will be settle down in the bottom, then we have to wash it out. Then again we have to put it in the water. Do this process for five times to clean the food out of chemical content. What will be the amount of artemia to a single fish? A pinch of it consists of 4-5 artemia that is sufficient for single fish. Where do you get this frozen food? I get this from Kunnamkulam by courier. They supply it in Ice boxes. We should start keeping it in freezer at once. When should to give this food? We should give this food two times daily after the fish completes 15 days. You can see the big artemia that float on the water. After half an hour all would be settling down to the bottom. How many days can be used this single pack of artemia? We can feed this single pack
to a batch of newly born fish for two months. We should continuously keep this pack
in the freezer for further use. Apart from this frozen food I also give fish pellets to them. After two months I will start to give them pellets
in the evening and frozen food in the morning. I use the optimum brand for this. I get this for Rs.40 from the market. Is this food meant only for babies or matured ones? They are also meant to the big fish. While the pellets come in to the menu, then when will you give the live food to them? I usually give the live food in the evening and the pellets in the morning. Oh ok Apart from these foods..any other new food to them? Yes I give micro pellets also to them. It is protein rich and confers radiant colors to the baby fish. Can you explain about the conditioning of the breeding pair? Normally all females have been put together and male in each bottle. But for conditioning I select 30 to 40 pairs out of 600-700 babies of one month. I put each pair in to each bottle. Then I give only live foods to them avoiding all frozen food and pellets. I care them like this for three months. Hence the babies that hatch will be so healthy and colorful rather than the babies of normal pair. Besides we will get more eggs and babies out of it. When normal pairs hatch to 50 to 60 babies, there will hatch 600 to 900 babies for the conditioned pairs. The expense for this breeding is also high. Because we have to feed them only with the live food like OS artemia that costs Rs: 1200 for 100 gm. Now I am going to show you how I breed healthy fighters. This is my breeding box which I have arranged myself. I bought this plastic box from the market. We should put a hole on the lid and close it with a net. By this, we can observe inside at the same time no pets or rats would attack them. Which strains are used here to the breeding? Here I use fancy strain for the breeding. We should put the female in a glass of water, and keep it in this breeding box which is filled with ¾ of water in it. I put the male fish in the box itself. Then add some crystal salt and put the Indian almond leaf in to the box. We put this almond leaf in order to prevent the fungal attack to the new born. Did you have added these bubbles in to the water? No, these bubbles have been created by the male fish itself. They are called bubble nest. This is the signal they give to the female that they are ready for mating. When the female lays eggs, the whole eggs are carried to these bubbles
as they consider it as a place of safe. These two would be put together in the next day itself. By evening the female starts to lay eggs. These two are kept in the same box because they have to be familiar with each other before mating. In the next day we can find the eggs in the bubble. It looks like semolina in the water. After laying eggs the female goes to any corner and remains stand still. During that period we should take the female fish out of the box. After that the male fish takes in charge of looking after the eggs and babies. When the eggs go to the bottom
as the bubbles crumble down naturally, then the male fish takes the eggs
and put those inside the bubble again. Female fish has the tendency
to eat their own eggs. But the male fish will not do this
but guards them till hatching. The eggs will be hatched in two days. They will be seen freely in three days. After that we can take the male fish also out of the box. We should give nutrient food to the male. There is no need to give food to the new born for 3 days as there would be tiny egg particle inside the box. That would become the food for them for some days. What are these you have put aside? These are the fish selected for the breeding. Will you give food for them during this period? Yes I give..through these hole. Usually I take five pairs for breeding in a month. I have five boxes with me. Two days before I had arranged a box for breeding and now the babies are in visible growth. You can find out babies when you look at carefully. Yes I can see them. There are 600 to 700 babies in the box. They are the babies of three days. What food will you give to these tiny babies? I give artemia to these babies. Artemia are continuously given twice daily to these baby fish for fifteen days. So they have the capacity to eat artemia? Yes indeed. I will show you the other strains
that I have kept for breeding. This is Thai Flag. You breed this strain by crossing yourself? No I had imported this strain. What is the cost of this pair? I had bought this pair for 1200 rupees. They are beautiful. Obviously they have high market value. Next I will show you another one called big ear that I had already mentioned you. The male is under the bubble nest. Usually all active male goes under the bubble nest to give signal that they are ready for mating. So the leaf also helps for breeding, as the fish can create bubbles under it. Not like that.. the fish always create bubble nest for breeding. So you change the leaf daily? No there is no need to change it daily. which strain is this? This is also fancy breed which I had done myself. Ok friends I think Mr.Jinesh have narrated all the things related to fighter fish farming.
