Easy Tuna Pasta Bake | KerryAnn Dunlop

Hi FoodTube! Kerryann here. I’m going to show you a family favourite from my house, its the tuna pasta bake. Its delicious, its affordable, but most importantly its really, really easy. In this dish we’ve got a great number of ingredients, not loads! We’ve got some tinned tomatoes which are really, really rich. We’ve got some great tuna which is good for you with all of those meat frees, and then you’ve got the pasta holding it all together. But the best part of all, is the crispy crunchy bits of cheese on the top. Don’t worry if you’ve never cooked before, or this is one of your first experiences its not going to be difficult, I’m going to be with you every step of the way and we’re going to have a great time. So, let’s get started! I’ve pre-heated my oven that is currently at 200 degrees, 400 degrees fahrenheit or gas mark 6. I’ve got a nice big pan of boiling water with a little bit of salt added, and now we’re going to start on our tomato sauce. So first I need a nice sized onion, so I’m going to cut it in half that way so we’re still keeping the root. Have a look at this now my friends, this is why we keep the root on it has sliced all of the onion but that little bit of root, is holding it all together for us. So that is going to make it nice and easy for us to chop it finer. I’m going to put this pan on a medium to high heat because we want to fry off these onions with some garlic. Two nice fat cloves, and I’m just going to roughly roughly chop this, nothing extravagant. Now in this pan I’m going to add about a couple of table spoons of olive oil, and into that straight the way I’m going to put my onions and my garlic. Now into these I’m going to add a nice pinch of dried chili flakes. If you don’t like spice you can leave it out it’s not a must, but it is for me because I love it, and we just want to fry these until they are really soft and sweet. Now I’m going to add three tins of chopped tomatoes like that… and one more. Mix it all together, it looks great already. Do you see how easy this is so far? That is probably about as difficult as its going to get. Now to this I want to add a nice handful of fresh basil leaves, if i haven’t got fresh basil what I’ll usually do is just chuck in a good tablespoon of dried oregano, or dried basil. I want to bring it to the boil and then I want it to simmer for about twenty minutes. Right so the sauce is simmering away, now in here I have got lots of salted boiling water and to that I’m going to add my pasta. I’ve got 500 grams of penne only because that is what I’ve got in my cupboard at the moment. Penne is probably the most regularly available pasta so in we go, with the 500 grams of pasta. We don’t want to leave none behind, that could be someones seconds! Right and we’ll give that a nice little stir… you don’t want to cook it all the way through because its going to go in the sauce, and in the oven again. So I’m goin to take that out just before its done. This sauce has been simmering now for about twenty minutes so now we want to add some tuna, I’ve got two tins of tuna, get the tuna that you like the best whatever is the best quality that you can afford, and then the other one. You want to make sure its evenly spread out through the sauce, so a little bit of salt and a nice generous pinch of pepper. Right so this pasta has been boiling for about 8 minutes, I’m going to drain it now and then straight into the sauce. Right now we just want to coat this pasta really, really well with all of this lovely lovely sauce that we put so much love into. Now we’re going to try and swir this into an oven safe dish, so in we go with all of this. Look at the colours… I’ve got 150 grams of a good cheddar, if you want you can use parmesan you can use mozzarella, I’m just going to quickly grate that. What I’m going to do now- look how difficult this is guys, the kids could even do this! Just because I’m feeling in a bit of a fancy mood, I’m going to put a nice couple of small baby basil leaves on top. Just because it is made out of store cupboard ingredients, and its a really really simple dish, doesn’t mean it can’t look nice. I might even put a little pinch of black pepper on top as well, add another little tiny drizzle of olive oil on the top. Now I’m going to whack this in the oven at 200 degrees for 15 minutes and I cant wait to see how its going to turn out! So my pasta has been in the oven for about 20 minutes, I’m going to get it out now Oh yes, thats what I’m talking about. Look at that! Would you ever believe that that was made with a few ingredients out of your store cupboard. Look its all crispy and crunchy around the edges its all oo-ey and goo-ey in the middle… I need to dish some up. Oh look at that! Its not mushy but just lovely. Its really, really rich yet meaty from the tuna and then you’ve got the cheese that adds a little bit of salt. For more other great recipes like this head over to family Food Tube as well, Hi guys! 1. Thank you for nice recipe. Please change your hairstyle. Because you are seriously damaging your hair and soon you are gonna be bald.

  2. I cooked this and it was my first time making food! It was surprizingly good! Thank you so much for inspiration. This could be my new passion !

  3. Until you went into the oven dish you did it exactly like I do it. But cheese with tuna (except on a pizza) is sacrilegious here in Italy.

  4. I work with young people and I've been asked to make them pasta bake, you make it look so simple and delicious, you explained everything so well!! …..I hope I get it right 😀

  5. Hello Kerryann,

Culturally, I would have no clue about pasta dishes existing as I grew up from one of the poorest communities in West Africa, yet:

It is 08-11-2018_01:43 AM and i have been pondering for over 3 years on when to finally gather some guts to watch a befitting tutorial on how to make traditional tuna pasta bake.

This has been very enlightening and I look forward to attempting your methods.

Thank you so much as i will be subscribing to your ideas on enjoying life via Yummyness :)!!!

    Best Regards,

  9. tried the dish, to be honest it was quite bland, the only flavours being added to the tomatoes were garlic, onions, basil, tuna and sallt; none of these really pack a punch to make it lipsmacking good, this being said, its ok just for a quick and easy meal

  10. Made this about 20 times now though I adapt it by adding different spices and herbs. Might make it later tonight for tomorrow's lunch

  11. Tuna pasta bake is disgusting. Plus tuna is riddled with mercury. Yummy different flavourings of mackerel is a lot healthier

This looks nice )))) good girl …

  13. I make the sauce and a put it on dry pasta and put in the oven for a hour, no need to boil the pasta first, just stir it every 15 mins.

  14. 🤔 So, cheers from Italy. A couple of things: onions and garlic should be alternative to each other, you use one OR the other. If you use garlic in this case, you can make a very nice tuna sauce following this video up to the point where she puts the pasta in the pan with the sauce. OR: you can take the tuna out of the equation, make the sauce with onions or garlic, cook the pasta really al dente, put the pasta in the pan, add some mozzarella or scamorza affumicata, and go ahead until the end of the video. Whatever you do, please don’t mix fish (tuna) with cheese, ever.

  15. I made this with a tablespoon to oregano like you said as I didn’t have any basil and it was delicious 😍

  16. im trying to work out why it says jamie oliver are u related to jamie or friends or he sponsors this what is the connection?

  17. You can make any type of sauce with different ingredients and put cheese on top and bake. It will still taste sooo…good.
