How to Make Tacos | Easy Ground Beef Taco Meat Recipe


Hello and welcome back to In the Kitchen
with Matt I am your host Matt Taylor today I’m gonna show you how to make
tacos oh yeah I love me some tacos I had requests to make a video on tacos
so here we go I’m also going to show off this really cool taco platter that I got
from Kinley and Kinley happens to be the sponsor of today’s episode tacos are
really easy to do and very versatile you can make tacos with a hard shell you can
make them with a like a soft tortilla like a flour tortilla or corn tortilla
or you can leave out the tortilla altogether and just do like a taco salad
so many things you can do with it however you want to do it this is how I
like to do it really easy to do if I can do it you can do it let’s get started
first let’s go ahead and start off by making our taco meat everything else is
pretty much just chopping up a little vegetables and things and cheese grating
cheese and things like that which will go on as toppings I’m not gonna show too
much of that but I’m going to show you how to make this awesome taco meat and
we’re gonna start with a little Bowl here and we were gonna add in 2
teaspoons of chili powder 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon of onion
powder 1/4 teaspoon of oregano 1 teaspoon of ground cumin 1 teaspoon of
salt and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper and down below in the description
I’ll list all these ingredients so you don’t have to memorize them and I’m just
gonna come in here and just mix this up a little bit perfect and now I also have
1/2 cup of tomato sauce this is just an unsalted normal store brand tomato sauce
let’s take all three of these over to the stove top alright here we are over
at the stove top I got my skillet I have about a tablespoon of olive oil in there
I have it set to medium heat which is about 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 176
Celsius and now what I want to do is I want to drop in my ground beef because
these are gonna be beef tacos this is gonna be one pound ok and now we just want to brown this
really well some other meat that you might want to do you might want to do
like grilled chicken you might want to do like chorizo there’s you can do like
shrimp or fish the meat is totally up to you but I just really wanted to show you
how to make this really cool beef taco meat and this beef is 80% lean you can
pretty much use whatever you want but you want a little bit of fat content in
with the beef because they’ll add flavor to your meat now some of you might be
wondering why I haven’t add the seasonings and the tomato sauce yet
that’s because we want to brown the meat first and then we want to drain it
there’s gonna be a lot of extra fat in the pan that we want to drain and so if
we were to add the seasonings now and the sauce when we drained it we would
just lose a lot of our flavor so we’ll just do that in a little bit here all
right now that it’s all pretty much brown there might be some parts that old
pink it’s alright we’re gonna cook those off a little bit later let’s go ahead
now and drain it to drain it what I like to do is just take it and tilt it on its
side and let all the fat go accumulate in the bottom there and then I’ll just
take a spoon and go like that there’s a variety of methods that you can use to
drain it this is just what I like to do I find this works fine all right I got
pretty much most of that out I have a left about a tablespoon of it in there
just to help add a little bit more moisture to the meat alright at this
point what we want to do is we want to add in all of our spices and add in our
1/2 cup of tomato sauce and the tomato sauce is just going to help keep
everything together it’s going to coat the meat and allow some of the spices to
stay on the meat so just go ahead and give that a really
good mix and then I’m just gonna turn the heat to about medium medium-low and
we’re just gonna let that meat and the sauce just cook together a little bit
and let everything kind of meld together oh yeah
and we’ll just let it cook for about another three minutes or so and we’ll
just stir it occasionally also at this point what you might want to do is just
give it a little taste hmm oh yeah that’s great I don’t think it needs
anything extra but at that point you might want to add any more of those
seasonings depending on your own taste um so I encourage you just make it first
this like this first time and then make it your own
after that all right there we go our beef taco meat is ready to go let’s go
assemble some tacos all right let’s take a look at this ceramic taco serving
platter by Ken Lee first of all it’s 13 inches in diameter and it’s dishwasher
safe and microwave safe and it has all these different little dividers with
little cool pictures of where you put the individual items which is really
cool so first off I want to start off with my door Tia’s and I’m just using
white corn tortillas you could use flour tortillas if you want up there on the
right hand corner there’s a little I click on that you’ll find a video where
I show you how to make homemade flour tortillas or you can just leave out the
tortillas altogether and do like a taco salad so here we go we got my tortillas
in there all right our spot for tomatoes our spot for our jalapenos our lettuce
our cheese our sour cream and our avocados or guacamole up in the
right-hand corner click that eye and you’ll find a recipe on how to make
and also how to make your own sour cream if you need to awesome our taco serving
plate is ready to go now we just need to get the meat and start assembling these
all right and then you can fix these up however you want again you can use other
meats and you can use other toppings as well go ahead and take some of this meat
oh yeah taco meat yummy so this is going to be like little street taco size and
sometimes people will double up with the tortilla as well poke dab wakka moly on
there I’m just gonna put a little bit of jalapeno I’m not a huge jalapeno fan I’m
kind of a wimp when it comes to hot heat but my friend is coming over he loves
how to pin yo so I mainly did that for him some lettuce some cheese a little
bit of sour cream boom there you go got a nice little beef taco ready to be
eaten all right there you go that is my take on beef tacos really easy to do if
