Man outraged as council clean out leaves native eels to die

An Upper Hutt man is outraged after discovering more than a dozen
dead Eels at his local pond, after council maintenance work. Stephen Robinson says
council contractors came through the dried pond,
marked as protected, with a digger. He says it uprooted
at least 50 eels, including
the threatened longfin eel that had been burrowing in the mud. The council says
the flattening of the pond was part of ‘normal maintenance’
after flooding in the area and admits it could have been
the wrong thing to do.

  1. They should fire Was this done out of Stupidity? Carelessness? Ignorance or jealousy, do you suppose?  This is very bad and he is right to feel upset.  However, it could have been worse — at least they didn't drop that wretched 10.80 poison as they seem to do with impunity and to the detriment of all wild life in other parts of NewZealand = I hope all beings recover swiftly from this onslaught > > > >
