Tips from Dr. Daniel Amen: Looking For Your Keys? Do This NOW!

[Intro Music] Dr. Amen: After being a psychiatrist for nearly
30 years, I find myself recommending natural treatments more and more. When we first started
our brain imaging work on patients who have been taking a lot of medications, you know,
I actually didn’t like how they affect the medications had on their brain which got me
really interested in thinking of more natural ways to optimize my patients. In my mind I’m
always thinking, first do no harm, and the second thing is using the least toxic, most
effective treatments. So, I got very interested in what natural supplements might be able
to offer to my patients. What was really exciting as we started using them, we often saw that
they had an important physiological effect on brain function. But not everybody should
be taking them. There are pros and cons to the whole idea of natural supplements. So
let me talk about that. The pros are you know they work when prescribed properly, they can
be very effective. You also never have to tell your insurance company that you ever
take them. Now, most people don’t know that taking psychiatric medications or medicines
for your mind can have a negative effect on your health insurance, your life insurance,
your disability insurance and your long-term care insurance. Your doctor never tells you
that. Natural supplements have pure side effects. My experience, I mean really dramatically
less side effects and they can be very effective when prescribed properly. But it’s not all
rosy. You have to be concerned about the quality control of many brands. For most people, their
consultant is the teenage clerk at the health food store, which can be very concerning.
And so what we did, initially at Amen Clinics, we just recommend other people’s brands
that we trust but as I learned more and more that there are certain things I wanted in
a multiple vitamin. There is a certain type of fish oil I thought was best for the brain.
So, Amen Clinics, over the last decade, has worked really hard to build our own line of
supplements that are really brain directed to optimize your brain. I think everyone should
start with a very high quality multiple vitamin and mineral supplement, and the one that we
make at Amen Clinics, I couldn’t be prouder, it’s the one I take called “NeuroVite
plus.” It has 50 nutrients in it to optimize brain function in just what I think are the
best doses to enhance your brain. I also think everyone should be taking a fish oil supplement
or omega-3 fatty acid. And while fish oil is opposed to flaccid oil, fish oil has something
in it called EPA and DHA ingredients that you won’t find in vegetable-based oils.
It can support specifically heart and brain health. Everyone should get their vitamin
D level checked and if it’s low as it is for most people, should take vitamin D to
optimize your vitamin D level. The supplements really depend on your specific needs. In other
videos, I’ll go through them more specifically. One of the things I want you to know, we want
them to work for you. We’ve invested in them working for you so we offer 100% money-back
guarantee on all of our supplements. By you being a member of the Brainfit life community,
you automatically get a 15% discount. We are so excited about what supplements can do to
optimize the function of your brain; whether it’s to help support your memory, your energy,
your mood, your cravings that we just can be more excited than to offer them to you
as a member of our community.

  1. I take your point on the multivitamin and fish oil:  unfortunately just these have never cured the
blues for me as standalone products.

Do you have any more recommendations (2-3 supplements) that would
help cure a chronic low mood/depression…going on 30 years now.   Would
this profile point toward a few recommendations that would work for my type of depression?   (Would love to visit the Amen clinic, but
until you bring your fees down or get Health Insurers to pay, I will not be
able to avail myself of your services.
